Kits are a popular way for the relative newcomer to the hobby of miniature properties to get to grips with their new found passion. Offering greater ease of construction than bulding from plans yet substantial cost savings over the expense of purchasing a completed house or other property they commonly consist of a series of pre cut parts and instructions for their assembly. These will in most instances be unpainted MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) parts which once assembled can be painted and decorated according to the tastes of the individual builder / hobbyist. They allow for the undoubted enjoyment of construction without the need for all of the skills that are required for building from plans alone. Precision cut parts, machined in production runs can be assembled with a minimum of woodworking tools and in a far shorter period of time than plans that will often require a far higher degree of modelmaking competence.
