Discounting those model buildings designed for and built by such miniaturists as model railway enthusiasts this is one of the smallest scales of standalone hobby property. Equating to one half inch to the foot (or just under 42mm to the metre) this is not one of the most commonly found dolls house or other miniature property sizes. Although space saving, due to their relatively tiny size, building and equipping such houses can be an intricate task if a high level of interior and exterior faithfulness and accuracy is desired. Whilst some of the smaller children's dolls houses may be approximately classified at this scale, these will not accurately reflect the exterior and interior architecture of a true house or other building, instead offering a limited numbers of rooms and a lack of harmony of scale between furniture, occupants and accommodation. True 1/24th scale builders and hobbyists will require keen dexterity and have to pay meticulous detail and care when equipping a property where an average room height will be less than four inches (or 100mm) high and model oranges less than an eigth of an inch (or 3mm) in diameter. At 1/24th scale a faithful representation of a house with a groundfloor plan of 1000 square feet would require a space of less than 2 square feet. |

Equating to three quarters of an inch to the foot (or 62.5mm to the metre) this is an intermediate scale and creating rooms of approximately 6 inches (or 150mm) high. At this point a faithful representation of a house with a groundfloor plan of 1000 square feet would occupy a space of approximately 4 square feet. |

Probably the most common scale of dolls house and miniature property for the hobbyist. Equating to one inch to the foot (or just over 83mm to the metre) it is a highly popular size due to the ability of the hobbyist to faithfully furnish rooms at a size that allows a relatively accurate representation of a real property without having to work at a level that requires magnification, except for the most fiddly of jobs for the smallest household items. Model properties at this scale can naturally occupy a groundprint that is quite large with some of the largest requiring extensive space. Room height equates to approximately 8 inches (or 200mm) high. A faithful representation of a house with a groundfloor plan of 1000 square feet would itself occupy a space of approximately 7 square feet. |
